Big time for GW's air & sea business

Austria-based family corporation Gebrüder Weiss has reported preliminary revenues of EUR 2.54 billion for the full year 2021, 43% above the level of 2020. While the classical land transport business remains the backbone of the company, more than 70% of this increase was generated by the air & sea segment.

Rising rates due to shortages of cargo capacity worldwide led to this extraordinary leap forward. To meet its customers’ needs in 2021, the group, like other players, organised additional air freight charters by deploying “preighters,” i.e., converted passenger aircraft.

The acquisition of the Ipsen Logistics operations in Germany, Poland and Malaysia at the end of 2020 marked an important step forward for the global network.

In total, the air & sea and logistics division crossed the revenue mark of EUR 1 billion in 2021 (2020: EUR 470 million). The land transport and logistics division closed the year with a 16% increase in revenues to EUR 1.28 billion (2020: EUR 1.1 billion). Gebrüder Weiss aims to achieve carbon neutrality at its locations by 2030. (sh)
