Between LAX and Long Beach – a new Maersk site

A.P. Moller-Maersk has inaugurated a new 12,000 sqm airfreight import/export gateway near Los Angeles airport that offers plane-side recovery with unit load device transfers. The facility supports Maersk’s growing north American network of air cargo gateways, including Atlanta and Chicago.

“LA is a self-managed air facility that has tripled our access to capacity on the US West Coast,” according to John Wetherell, Maersk’s’ regional head of airfreight in North America.

The new facility is 15 miles from LAX and 9 miles from the port of Long Beach. Staffing will be in place to conduct customs brokerage, commercial sales and freight operations, such as LCL transloading. This site is a US Customs bonded container freight station and a US Transportation Security Administration certified cargo screening facility. (mk)
