BBC Chartering welcomes first Lakermax

BBC Chartering has taken delivery of “MV BBC Leer”, the first of the Lakermax series, a new class of 13,000 dwt multipurpose heavy-lift triple deckers built by Taizhou Sanfu Heavy Industry in China. The vessel will begin a long-term charter for worldwide trading.

Featuring two Liebherr LS 250 cranes with a combined lifting capacity of 500 t, the ship has an unobstructed 2,830 sqm weather deck and two box-shaped cargo holds with a capacity of nearly 26,000 cbm. The design allows for significant greenhouse gas emission reductions per freight tonne.

The series, optimised for the St. Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes, will see fourteen more vessels delivered by 2026. (pb)
