Battling the illegal wildlife trade
Emirates SkyCargo continues its fight against the illegal wildlife trade, reinforcing strict embargoes on trafficked species and hunting trophies. The airline actively disrupts illicit supply chains through rigorous screening, staff training and collaborations with authorities.
Its commitment includes supporting Cites protocols, intercepting illegal shipments with Dubai customs and police, and co-developing the aviation risk and threat assessment to counter the donkey-skin trade. Emirates also aids animal rescues, such as the transport of a lion cub to a Cape Town sanctuary.
Beyond cargo, the Emirates Group strengthens defences against wildlife trafficking, earning Iata’s environmental certification and promoting awareness through its A380 fleet and inflight educational initiatives. “Protecting wildlife is a core part of our sustainability framework,” said Shannon Scott, vice-president of sustainability and environment.
