Asyaport pioneers decarbonisation
Asyaport, a joint venture between Global Terminal Limited (GTL), terminal investment company of MSC, and the Turkish Soyuer family located in Barbaros / Tekirdağ, has become the first port in Turkey to offer shore power to container vessels: an important milestone for decarbonising maritime logistics in the region.
Following the installation of onshore power supply (OPS), it will provide electricity to berthed vessels, reducing their carbon emissions and environmental impact. This system can simultaneously supply high-voltage power to two mainline vessels and three feeder vessels. The newly installed onshore power capability complements the terminal’s existing portfolio of features that reduce terminal emissions.
Asyaport already runs exclusively on electrified crane operations to efficiently and sustainably position containers in the terminal. More logistics news from Turkey in ITJ 45-46/2024, out today, 8 November 2024! (ah)
