Appeal against Gateway Basel Nord approved
On 19 October 2023, Switzerland’s federal administrative court ruled in favour of an appeal by Swissterminal against the Swiss government's financial contribution with regard to the planned trimodal Gateway Basel Nord (GBN).
The court ordered that the contested rulings must be set aside and "referred back to the lower instance, i.e., the federal office of transport (FOT), for the continuation of the proceedings and a new decision."
At issue is the federal financial contribution of over CHF 115 million approved by the FOT in favour of GBN, which received planning approval for the first construction phase in September this year. This means that the timetable for the project is back on hold.
On 12 October, Swissterminal also lodged an appeal with the federal administrative court against the planning approval for the first stage of the GBN project. This case has not yet been decided. (cd)
