Anchorage breaks record but seeks new director

Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) handled approximately 3.6 million t of air cargo in 2021, breaking its record for cargo volume by 14%, or just over 400,000 t. The previous record was set in 2020.

Jim Szczesniak, ANC’s director, is departing for new opportunities. Szczesniak led the airport through the challenges of the pandemic, as well as during record levels of passenger service and cargo activity. He has accepted a new airport leadership opportunity in Houston TX.

In the interim, deputy commissioner John Binder will serve as airport director until a replacement can be found. He has substantial aviation experience and has also served as interim airport director in the past. (cj)
