Alfa Laval to power Maersk's eco-fuel transition

Alfa Laval has been selected by Maersk for a methanol retrofit project on the container vessel "Maersk Halifax". With their collaboration, the partners intend to demonstrate the practicality of retrofitting existing vessels for methanol propulsion.

Alfa Laval's expertise in methanol-related technology and its FCM Methanol low-flashpoint fuel supply system (LFSS) will be instrumental in this project. The retrofit, planned for mid-2024, will enable “Maersk Halifax” to operate on green methanol with dual-fuel capabilities. The project represents a landmark effort in the marine industry's transition to more sustainable fuel options.

Alfa Laval's experience in methanol fuel system installations and service, along with its commitment to technology and product development, positions it to tackle the challenges of equipping both new and existing vessels with methanol solutions. Maersk's strategy aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040, with this retrofit playing a crucial role in their efforts. (pb)
