Additional funding for eleven US short lines
The US state North Carolina is investing almost USD 13 million to improve rail infrastructure on eleven short line freight railroads and access routes to the state ports in Morehead City and Wilmington.
The projects will modernise over 16 km of railroad corridor, improve 16 railroad bridges and enhance port rail operations, supporting the increase of freight rail traffic on the statewide railroad network.
The beneficiaries of the funding will include, inter alia, the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad for the refurbishment and construction of new sidings as well as track and drainage upgrades, and the North Carolina Ports for building rail storage tracks, raising adjoining tracks and upgrading track, rail/highway crossings and railcar switching operations.
