A sustainable gateway for Latin America
Cosco Shipping has officially commenced operations at Chancay Peru Terminal, its first green and smart port investment in South America. Situated 78 km north of Lima, this advanced deep-water port features four berths, including two berths for containers, and can handle 1 million teu, 6 million t of bulk cargo, and 160,000 vehicles annually.
The port integrates innovative technologies such as electric container trucks, reducing energy consumption by over 25%. It is connected to the Pan-American Highway via a 1.8 km tunnel.
The Chancay Port Project Phase I has generated over 8,000 jobs and established wildlife rescue centres to rehabilitate local fauna and enhance natural habitats. Two new shipping routes linking Shanghai and Chancay will cut transit times to 23 days, bolstering trade. Future plans include creating a regional logistics hub and automotive distribution centre.
