A first for Chilean salmon
Chile's seafood industry reached a new milestone as the country's first shipment of fresh, chilled salmon fillets arrived in Australia last week. The 220 kg cargo, exported by two major Chilean companies, marks the beginning of a new chapter for Chilean seafood exports.
Transported by Latam Cargo Group on flight LA805, which left Santiago in the early morning of 27 November, it was the first consignment of Chilean salmon to touch down on Australian soil.
Before the aircraft could take off, the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca), supported by Pro Chile, a promoter of Chile’s export industry, conducted a rigorous and extensive audit process to ensure that the products met the stringent requirements of the Australian market, both in terms of sanitary controls and food safety.
