Die Antriebe werden in zwei Newcastlemax-Erzfrachter mit 325.000 DWT eingebaut, die f\u00fcr die chinesische Reederei Shandong Shipping gebaut und von der Bergbaufirma Vale aus Brasilien eingesetzt werden sollen. Die Schiffe entstehen bei Beihai Shipbuilding in China.<\/p>\n<p>Jedes Schiff erh\u00e4lt einen sechszylindrigen 6X82DF-M\/E-Zweitaktmotor, der \u00fcberwiegend mit Ethanol betrieben werden kann. Grundlage ist das bereits eingesetzte Methanolkonzept von WinGD, das f\u00fcr Ethanol angepasst wurde. Nach Angaben des Unternehmens gelten Ethanol und Methanol als technisch \u00e4hnlich, unterscheiden sich jedoch in ihrer Energiedichte.<\/p>\n<p>Ethanol gewinnt als Schiffskraftstoff an Bedeutung, da es in mehreren Regionen weltweit verf\u00fcgbar ist. Besonders Brasilien, woher die Erztransporte nach China erfolgen sollen, verf\u00fcgt \u00fcber grosse Produktionskapazit\u00e4ten. Vale geht davon aus, dass sich die Treibhausgasemissionen gegen\u00fcber Schwer\u00f6l um bis zu 90% reduzieren lassen.
