70th anniversary for Fischer & Rechsteiner
Fischer & Rechsteiner, an international shipping company based in Valmadrera, about 45 km northeast of Milan (Italy), celebrated its 70th anniversary on 29 April 2023. It carries on a tradition of a brand that appeared on the market more than a century and a half ago, in 1870.
Managing director Riccardo Riva, looking back to 1953, points out that “such a long history gives the impression of recalling a distant world but, after the pandemic, it now seems to refer to a completely different world. Just read the memoirs of our co-founder Giancarlo Riva to realise this!”
The company first focused on local transport, deploying various types of wagons, some with tyres, all of them pulled by draught shire horses, to unload raw materials from the Lecco railfreight yard for numerous local factories.
Nowadays the company has several branches in Italy, employs more than 200 people in Italy as well as abroad and has customers worldwide. (cj)
