Zurich Airport finally above pre-pandemic volumes
39,132 t of freight were transported at Zurich Airport in October 2021, 51.3% above the level in October 2020. Compared to October 2019, freight volumes increased by 1.3%. This means that for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic, cargo throughput was above the volumes recorded the same month before Covid-19.
The autumn school holidays were a significant driver of business at Switzerland's biggest airport. Year-on-year, air traffic movements increased by 98.1% to 16,717 take offs or landings. The monthly comparison shows that air traffic movements are at 69.5% of 2019 levels. And the winter timetable sees the same number of destinations being served from Zurich as before the pandemic. (ah)
