Yet more solar energy for Gebrüder Weiss

Gebrüder Weiss now relies on sustainable electricity for its operations in Lower Austria as well. On a total area of 16,000 sqm, a new solar plant in the company’s location in Pöchlarn produces around 1,725 megawatt hours (MWh) per year.

A large part of the photovoltaic modules on the roofs of the branch office have been rented out to investors from the energy sector. However, the logistics services provider uses 462 solar modules on a 796 sqm area to generate about 130,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) per year for its own purposes.

This amount would be sufficient for 26 four-person households and reduces CO2 emissions by 71 t per annum. With this electricity supply Gebrüder Weiss Pöchlarn covers around a quarter of its daily energy needs.

“Of course we want to make the best possible use of this new source of energy within our company. Therefore, we now load our cargo handling vehicles during the day rather than at night, by means of rechargeable batteries,” says Bernhard Schartmüller, head of the branch office Gebrüder Weiss Pöchlarn.
