Yang Ming orders methanol-ready containerships

The Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation has announced the purchase of three 8,000 teu methanol dual-fuel-ready containerships from Shoei Kisen Kaisha, built by Imabari Shipbuilding. Delivery is expected in 2028 or 2029.

The move marks the first phase of Yang Ming’s broader fleet optimisation plan, which foresees the addition of up to thirteen 8,000–15,000 teu class vessels. The new ships will be equipped with energy-efficient main engines and the option to adopt alternative fuels, aiming to support energy savings and operational flexibility.

Yang Ming stated that the expansion will help address changing supply chain dynamics and the growing demand for greener transportation solutions, while maintaining service quality in its network. (ah)
