Xinjiang sends vehicles to Central Asia by rail

The first train left Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, last Thursday, 10 October 2024, and is now en route to Almaty in Kazakhstan, carrying vehicles worth over CNY 27 million (USD 3.82 million).

The journey combines road and rail, reduces logistic costs and time, and is safer compared with other means of transport, according to the Zhongshiyun (Xinjiang) international logistics company.

So far this year, 83,781 vehicles have been exported from Xinjiang through the ports of Horgos and Alashankou in Kazakhstan, an increase of 2.9% year on year, the Chinese state information office (SCIO) reports. (ben)
