Wolfurt on the way to becoming a paperless terminal

In its first year of operation, the new ÖBB intermodal terminal in Wolfurt, Austria, loaded more than 70,800 containers on or off trains, 14,238 of which were containers coming from or going to Hamburg (Germany). This means that per month, 2,700 fewer trucks were travelling on the roads between Wolfurt in the Voralberg and the North Sea ports.

The ÖBB says that it is planning further investments for the near future. For example, Wolfurt shall be developed into a paperless terminal with the setting up of a video gate facility that enables the digital registration of arriving and departing trucks and trains. There are also plans to add “full services” and “food grade services” (preparing the containers for transporting foodstuffs) to the existing container workshops. (ben)
