VNF and the Port of Strasbourg work together

On the initiative of the French City of Strasbourg, the Eurométropole de Strasbourg and the association of French waterways, Voies navigables de France (VNF), are joining forces to put more emphasis on sustainable urban logistics.

As the public operator for the fluvial sector in France, Voies navigables de France also contributes to regional planning and oversees the management of the waterways. In this context VNF is currently modernising and developing 490 km of waterways on the Rhine basin, including the Ill in Strasbourg, which hosts freight transport activities. Since May 2018, it has been possible to transport goods to the heart of Strasbourg by water thanks to the commissioning of a river platform located on the Fishermen's Wharf and named "Fischerstaden".

In view of the potential offered by this loading / unloading wharf, the Eurométropole de Strasbourg and the Territorial Directorate of VNF in Strasbourg wish to see the site's use expand, which is so far limited to a construction site activity, to practical urban logistics. That is why the three partners launched a call for projects in mid-October. (fd)
