Visitor centre and cranes elevate Greenock port
The port of Greenock has officially launched its new GBP 25 million ship-to-shore cranes, marking the largest ever investment in its container facilities.
Owned by Peel Ports Clydeport, the cranes have already improved productivity, with quicker turnaround times enabling a recent vessel to depart 13 hours ahead of schedule. The investment is seen as transformative for the port, enhancing supply chain efficiency and supporting growth in transatlantic trade.
A naming competition for the cranes saw students name them "Craner Swift" and "U-Crane Bolt," paying tribute to Taylor Swift and Usain Bolt, respectively. The cranes, operational since July 2024, are part of a broader development effort that includes the recent opening of a GBP 20 million cruise ship visitor centre. (pb)
