Vessel traffic service to take off in Antwerp
The Port of Antwerp has launched a new shipping guidance system called Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) to improve safety and environmental protection on the increasingly busy Scheldt River and at the Antwerp docks.
VTS provides information and advice on both ship navigation and weather conditions, accidents and other potential risks. The port will be monitored through the Polder, City and Waasland sectors.
The service will be introduced in several stages and operate 24/7 as of 3 April. The phased roll-out on the right bank will begin in the Polder and City sectors in the autumn. (cd)
