Vale modernising fleet

The mining company Vale has signed an agreement with Wabtec to purchase 50 evolution series locomotives for its Vitória a Minas (EFVM) and Carajás (EFC) railroads, marking a step forward in its decarbonisation strategy.

The order includes 36 EVOBBW locomotives for EFVM and 14 ES58ACi units for EFC, with delivery set to begin in 2026 from Wabtec’s plant in Contagem (Brazil).

According to Danilo Miyasato, Wabtec Latam president and regional leader, the locomotives feature engine technology that improves fuel efficiency and reduces CO₂ emissions. They are also capable of operating with higher biodiesel blends.

Wabtec and Vale will test increased biodiesel use in future operations. The model offers over 50% improved hauling capacity, improved maintenance and enhanced operator ergonomics. (js)
