UTLC ERA: 80% of all broad gauge transports
In 2021, the increase in economic activity also boosted demand for logistic services, resulting in a rapid growth of railway traffic between Europe and China. By the end of 2021, the volume of railway container transportation between the two largest world economies will approach one million standard containers (teu).
In 2021, UTLC ERA, a JV of the railways of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, will have carried out more than 80% of all railway transports on the broad gauge of the New Silk Road.
Volumes transported between Europe and China totalled 573,000 teu by mid November 2021. The plan is to reach 675,000 teu by the end of the year, well above the 547,000 teu achieved at the end of 2020. (ben)
