US class I railway relies on short lines
BNSF has signed an agreement with Alabama & Gulf Coast Railway (AGR), an affiliate of Genesee & Wyoming, to expand opportunities for short lines. AGR provides rail service to industries along the Gulf Coast and into Alabama and Mississippi.
The BNSF’s newly launched short line programme combines the customised service of short lines with BNSF's 52,000-km network spanning 28 US states and three Canadian provinces.
The aim of “short line select” is to drive growth by improving service performance with participating short lines through enhanced communication, seamless movement tracking, data transparency as well as faster equipment turns and a reduced dwelling times, BNSF said. (ben)
