Upbeat first quarter for the port of Rotterdam
In the first quarter of 2019, the quantity of cargoes processed at the port of Rotterdam surged by 5.1% compared to the same period last year. In total, 123.9 million t were handled compared with 117.8 million t in Q1/2018.
The increase was mainly due to the throughput of containers (+7.3% in teu, +5.9% in t) and fuels. The amount of mineral oil products, iron ore and scrap moved through the port fell, while liquid bulk shipments increased by 4.6% to 58.5 million t. Container throughput rose 5.9% by weight to 38.0 million t and 7.3% by volume to 3.7 million teu. (kd)
