U-Ming Marine investing for Taiwan
The U-Ming Marine Offshore Company (Umo), a Taiwanese joint venture, has acquired two second-hand crew-transfer vessels (CTVs). The JV between the U-Ming Marine Transport Corporation, established in 1984, and World Marine Offshore, from Denmark, completed their reflagging recently.
The ‘Umo Mistral’ and the ‘Umo Scirocco’, are swath trimarans and well-equipped for Taiwan’s harsh environment. The design has a 40% uptime improvement compared to the best catamarans available on the market. The vessels are ballasted down at the transfer station, to reduce roll, pitch and heave movements to a minimum, and are fitted with a patented hydraulic fender system, called ‘soft bow’, which allows the vessels to approach in high seas.
Two further CTVs are under construction and scheduled to be delivered in H2/2022. All four CTVs are already contracted to operators in the Taiwanese offshore wind market. (sh)
