Two JVs to promote rail-road traffic in Uzbekistan

Rhenus Group and Uzbekistan Railway have signed a memorandum of cooperation to develop existing transshipment facilities in Uzbekistan.

Specifically, they aim to jointly operate and expand combined road-rail terminals in Andijan and Samarkand. Under the agreement, two joint ventures will be established between Rhenus and the Uzbek railway’s subsidiary Uztemiryulkonteyner.

The partners have also agreed to take strategic measures to augment capacity and increase railfreight traffic in Uzbekistan. In the years ahead, Rhenus is expecting a rise in demand for the transportation of containerised goods and commodities along the New Silk Road’s Middle Corridor. (ben)
