Two Japanese partners for "Pupa"

Japan Aerospace Exploratory Agency (Jaxa) and Yamato Holdings are to collaborate on a cargo pod for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aerial systems.

The two organisations have worked together in designing and evaluating the aerodynamic shape of the "Pupa" 8801 heavy-size eVTOL cargo pod concept, a 400 kg- (880 lbs-) payload-class variant of the "Pupa" (pod unit for parcel air-transportation) series which Yamato has been developing.

The pod is required to obtain high aerodynamic performance as it is intended to be attached to the aircraft externally, enabling rapid loading and unloading. Thus, it is designed in an innovative approach that differs either from traditional aerospace or logistics equipment design methods. (ah)
