Two firsts for holiday airline

SunExpress, a joint venture of Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, which celebrated its 30th anniversary on 2 April 2020, welcomed a new CEO last Thursday, 9 April 2020: Max Kownatzki, formerly SVP network & partnership management hub airlines of the Lufthansa Group, follows Jens Bischof, who will become CEO at Eurowings. A graduate in business administration, Kownatzki has both German and US citizenship.

He assumes his new position in challenging times and classifies the "flexibility, rapidity and creativity in SunExpress' response to the effects of the corona crisis" as "remarkable". In fact, the holiday airline also grounded most of its tourist fleet a few days ago. But it is now also operating freighter flights, initially from its home base Antalya and Izmir, with 18 aircraft in its fleet.

The joint venture expects to carry a maximum load of up to 21.7 t on passenger seats and overhead bins, as well as under-aircraft cargo sections. (ah)
