Two dual-mode locos for La Spezia
Mercitalia Shunting & Terminal, a subsidiary of FS Italiane, will soon be putting Italy’s first two dual-mode shunting locomotives in operation in the port of La Spezia. They are Dual Shunter 2000 locomotives manufactured by the Czech company CZ Loko, which can be operated either electrically or with diesel.
They are specially designed for use in terminals and harbours. Mercitalia presented the two new locomotives at the Innotrans fair in Berlin. The company said that it is planning to purchase more Dual Shunter 2000s, which will be used in the port of Ravenna and at the intermodal logistics hub Interporto in Padua. (ben)
