Two crash landings in two days

Two Latin American cargo planes crashed on landing last week. No people were harmed. First, on Friday 8 April 2022, a DHL Aero Expreso B757-200F overshot the runway at San José Airport (SJO), Costa Rica.

It had departed from the same location 50 minutes earlier, heading for Guatemala City, but turned back after the crew apparently noticed hydraulic problems. Turning onto the taxiway, the 1999 freighter continued to rotate, crossed a road and broke up as it slid down an embankment.

The following day, a DC-3 (1944) of the Colombian Aerolínas Andinas Aliansa landed nose first after a domestic flight to San Félipe (SSD). According to the Aviation Safety Foundation, the right-hand main gear had collapsed and the left-hand main gear tyre had punctured. (ah)
