Turku weathered 2021 well

In 2021, cargo transports through the Port of Turku moved sidewards compared to 2020. About 2.4 million t of cargo were handled, exports and imports being on par. Around 123,000 trucks and trailers passed through the port, 2.4% less than in 2020 (126'000 units).

As in the previous year, the positive result was improved by the decision of Tallink Silja and Viking Line to concentrate their Scandinavian traffic at the Port of Turku.

The outlook for cargo transports in this port is positive for 2022. Currently, there are four daily departures to Stockholm, and one ship leaves for Denmark and Norway once a week. Ships to Germany operate weekly, and regular liner traffic also reaches England, the Netherlands and the ocean ports of the North Sea.

The cities of Turku and Gdynia (Poland) signed a letter of intent in 2019, planning to launch a regular cargo ship service between their ports. (sh)
