Trucks deliver megapack batteries for grid

The Lynden group of transport companies, based in Anchorage AK and Seattle WA (USA) and a specialist for logistics solutions in Alaska, Canada and the Pacific Northwest, was asked by Tesla to transport its megapack batteries over the last mile in Alaska. Each megapack weighs 36 t and is worth around USD 1.8 million.

The first transport of 24 megapacks headed for Chugach Electric in Anchorage. Alaska Marine Lines barged them directly into Anchorage for transloading onto Alaska West Express trailers for final delivery and later installation in Tesla Energy battery storage power stations.

Chugach is investing in a battery energy storage system to stabilise the grid. The megapack batteries allow Chugach to generate the same amount of power consuming less natural gas. Each megapack can store up to 3.9 megawatt hours of electricity. (ben)
