Trucks blocked on Inntal motorway

The German MEP Markus Ferber and a delegation of the Federal Association of Road Haulage Logistics (BGL), accompanied by representatives of European transport associations, entrepreneurs and drivers, recently visited the customs check point on the Inntal motorway near Kuftstein (Tyrol) on the German-Austrian border.

They witnessed the traffic chaos caused by the dosage system, where trucks are cleared in blocks of at most 250 vehicles per hour. For years, this system has repeatedly led to kilometre-long traffic jams and accidents on the Inntal motorway.

According to the BGL, there are only few options to transport freight by rail, since rail capacities are far too low. The delegation is now calling on the EU to intervene and replace the Tyrolean solo effort with a pan-European solution. (ben)
