Transit times cut from twelve to four hours
UAE-based Etihad Railways has transported more than 700,000 t of polyolefins for the petrochemical company Borouge during the first year of their partnership.
Since September 2023, over 36,000 containers have been moved in the UAE from a railfreight terminal in Al Ruwais industrial city to the port of Khalifa in Abu Dhabi. The rail route takes only four hours each way compared to twelve hours via other modes of transport.
The rail service, established through an agreement which Borouge and Etihad Rail signed at the end of 2022, supports scalability and is more resilient to weather conditions such as fog in comparison to road haulage, the two partners said. (ben)
