Train instead of truck cuts CO2 by around 75%

A positive result: At the end of last year, automotive industry supplier Webasto tested the delivery of component parts for production by train at its plant in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany).

The interim results of the pilot conducted by DB Cargo Logistics and freight forwarder Gertner show that the use of freight trains instead of trucks is a major step in the right direction, since it enables to reduce CO2 emissions by at least three quarters for transports to and from the Neubrandenburg site without additional costs.

What is more, all wagons arrived on time at the respective loading and unloading stations at home and abroad during the test phase. Webasto is now planning to involve other suppliers from Germany, Czechia, Hungary and Romania in the logistics project. (ben)
