Too much fish for Oslo airport?

Avinor, operator of Norway's airports, has withdrawn from a memorandum of understanding that it signed with freight handler WFS only 15 months ago. The MoU covered the construction and operation of a fish and seafood terminal at Oslo-Gardermoen airport. The EUR 81 million project is controversial as several shippers and logistics companies reckon the plans are too big compared to the predicted demand.

Schenker Norway, co-owner of the private Gardermoen perishable centre and one of the project's critics and its award, would probably participate in a tender for a smaller facility.

Avinor's plans have been supported by fishing companies such as Leroy Seafood, Mowi and Salmar - but those enterprises do not want to invest in a terminal. (ah)
