Testing a new piggyback service in Eastern Europe
In partnership with Ukrainian Railway and LTG Cargo, Global Ocean Link has started organising a new piggyback service in international traffic. The first trucks were transported in a trial run between Kaunas (Lithuania) and Kyiv (Ukraine).
Soon, a regular train of 36 cars will be launched on a permanent basis on the routes Gdansk (Poland) – Kyiv and Kaunas – Kyiv. The partners are also working on the organisation of contrailer transports for export.
Given the current situation on the Polish-Ukrainian frontier, where on Monday, 20 November 2023, the number of Ukrainian trucks queuing at the border crossing had grown to 2,900, the new service will represent an efficient alternative, the companies said. (ben)
