Switzerland: railfreight traffic growing
BLS Cargo posted a CHF 2.3 million profit in 2018, CHF 4.2 million less than in 2017. The private Swiss railfreight company generated higher revenues in 2018 because it transported more goods as the main carrier. The 2018 turnover came in 7.2% higher than in the preceding year. BLS Cargo said: "The strong growth exceeded our expectations."
The car haulage sector also fared well. The service provider transported 1.3 million vehicles in 2018 (2017: 1.18 million). However, the consolidated results remained in the red at minus CHF 12.6 million, primarily due to one-off effects from interest and shipping. (ben)
