Swiss supplies for Ukraine

Switzerland is currently carrying out its largest ever aid operation for eastern Ukraine. Recently, a first convoy crossed the line of contact bound for Donetsk, accompanied by six members of the Swiss humanitarian aid unit (SHA) that is bringing supplies to both sides of the line of contact, in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.

SHA is a division of the Swiss federal department of home affairs (FDHA). A total of 144 trucks in five convoys will transport – among other things – some 2,300 t of equipment to the conflict zone by mid-September. The supplies comprise chemicals and equipment for water treatment and medical equipment for hospitals and pandemic control, including 1.5 million antigen tests.

The first convoy started out from Mariupol on the Black Sea and reached the city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine. In total, the aid delivered amounts to around CHF 12 million. (sh)
