Swiss start-ups challenge post

Swiss start-ups Annanow and Pickwings have formed a partnership to launch an alternative concept to Swiss Post's next-day offer for urban deliveries. "Nachtpaket" goes on stream in Zurich and, if the trial period proves successful, will be extended to a further ten cities in Switzerland.

The aim is to provide overnight parcel deliveries that are about twelve hours faster than the service offered by Swiss Post and that use already existing urban means of transport and road users. To this end, the companies will combine Annanow's transport networks for last-mile deliveries with Pickwing's general cargo routes.

Already available road users such as taxis, bicycle couriers and private individuals will be activated via a single app and will deliver parcels independently. General cargo, part and full load truck transports will be organised by Pickwings.

For the pilot phase in Zurich, the founders of "Nachtpaket" have joined forces with the transport company Welti-Furrer, which will provide a hub for this project. (mw)
