Swedish furniture giant banks on rail

Ikea has joined forces with transport company Qube to launch its first ever intermodal solution in its Australian network. The train connects Ikea’s warehouse in Sydney with its delivery centre in Brisbane.

With the intermodal solution, over 200 full truckloads will be shifted from road to rail, cutting CO2 emissions by 60%, the furniture dealer said in a social media post on Linked in.

This launch follows a recently completed test phase. Further lanes identified for future intermodal development will follow during 2025. Qube is Australia’s largest provider of logistics services. It operates in over 200 locations in Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia. (ben)
