Sweden replaces Russia as main trading partner


Germany's seaports handled 279.1 million t of goods in 2022, - 3.2% less than in 2021 and 4.9% less than in 2019. As reported by Germany's federal statistical office, the volume of goods received from abroad (-1.5%) fell much less sharply than the volume of goods shipped abroad (-7%). With 13.4 million t, Russia, the most important partner country in 2021, slipped to seventh place, with almost three quarters of the volume being handled in H1/2022.

 

Sweden provided the largest amount of goods handled (24.4 million t), followed by Norway (22.7 million t), USA (22.0 million t) and China (20.9 million t).

 

The most important ports were Hamburg (103.4 million t, -7.2% compared to 2021), Bremerhaven (42.8 million t, -8.7%), Wilhelmshaven (31.8 million t, +7.6%), Rostock (21.3 million t, -3.2%) and Lübeck (16.4 million t, -6.9%).

 

Container throughput at German seaports in 2022 was 6.3% down on the previous year at 13.9 million teu, having increased by 5.8% in 2021 compared to 2020. China accounted for 21.5% of this, and USA for 10.2%. (ah)
