Swapping trailers halfway
The European association of international freight forwarders Elvis and the software developer Mansio are jointly setting up a network for full truck loads which will enable providers to exchange their trailers halfway along the journey.
At the start, the transport concept is based on central exchange points, the first of which will be established at the Elvis hub in Knüllwald, Germany.
And this is how it works: The participating haulage companies drive their trucks to the exchange point and hand the trailers over to other haulage companies there to continue the journey. The trailers are transported back to their respective regions of origin in the same way. A pool of uniform trailers will be made available for the project. (ben)
