Subsidies for Switzerland's freight sector

The Swiss government is planning to shore up railfreight and inland navigation to make the country’s freight transport network more efficient.

Single wagonload transport, which is currently operated by SBB Cargo, is to receive temporary financial support for eight years. The government also intends to provide CHF 180 million for the introduction of digital automatic coupling (DAC). Various other support measures are planned to improve Rhine shipping.

Furthermore, the Swiss government aims to create the legal basis for the promotion of fossil-free drives in land barges and shunting locomotives. Parliament still has to vote on the plans. (ben)
