SSA and Jaxport agree on new terminal

A new international container terminal on Florida's shores will actually be built as the Jacksonville Port Authority (Jaxport) and terminal operator SSA Marine have inked a long-term agreement for its development and operation.

The USD 238.7 million box facility, to be named SSA Jacksonville International Gateway Terminal, will be located at Jaxport’s Blount Island marine terminal. The new terminal is an expansion of the existing SSA Marine’s current leasehold at Blount Island and will offer deepwater berthing space of 14.3 m to accommodate the larger containerships – mainly from Asia – that call the port.

The corresponding Jacksonville harbour deepening project is due for completion in 2023. (kd)
