SOL and Wallenius create special fleet
A new shipping line, Wallenius Sol, has been founded. The company will move mainly forest products and other cargoes within a network covering the Gulf of Bothnia, the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. The initiative was launched by the shipping lines Wallenius und SOL. It focuses on strengthening infrastructures for the Finnish and Swedish industries. Stora Enso and Metsä Board were the first customers to sign long-term contracts.
Wallenius contributes its expertise in industrial maritime shipping, shipbuilding and ship operation. SOL provides logistics know-how with regard to forestry products and other types of freight. Five ports offer regular sailings to destinations in Europe and the UK.
Initially, the Baltic Sea fleet will consist of five vessels, four of which will be newbuilds using eco-friendly LNG fuel in order to reduce the impact on the environment. Delivery of the new ships is planned for 2021. (kd)
