Ship safety challenges at the top of the agenda
The 150th International Union of Marine Insurance (Iumi) conference in Berlin prioritised maritime safety and security, with a focus on challenges in the Red Sea and ongoing vessel safety efforts. Neil Roberts emphasised the role of international naval intervention in mitigating risks and supporting trade.
Iumi's work with the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) includes pushing for improved fire protection on container ships and addressing the issue of lost containers through projects like Top Tier. Regulatory changes are being sought to enhance safety in these areas. (pb)
