Roll-out of direct Belgium to Italy rail link
H.Essers and the private railway company Lineas Intermodal have launched a direct freight train service between Genk (Belgium) to Trieste (Italy). Currently running twice per week, the offer will be stepped up to thrice weekly at a later date.
Thanks to this new link, H.Essers is able to optimise transit times and transport costs. As an added benefit, it also replaces 9,000 road trips with eco-friendlier rail and waterway alternatives. This can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90%.
The new offer is the very first direct rail link from Belgium to Trieste, the Italian port city on the Adriatic Sea. (ben)
