Ro-la to remain in operation for the time being
The Swiss government has prepared a whole new bundle of measures strengthen railfreight transport through the Alps. For example, the performance-related heavy vehicle charge (HVC) is to be adjusted to inflation on 1 January 2025 and railfreight transport on routes of less than 600 km is to receive greater financial support.
As requested by parliament, the rolling highway (ro-la) will remain in operation until 2028 and the rail electricity price will not be increased from the beginning of 2024.
The shift of goods from road to rail is currently stalling, partly due to the economic situation and the many construction sites along the railway network. (ben)
